Proposed Session Description
In response to the increasing demand for certified electricians to meet the challenges of transitioning to a clean energy future, ReVision Energy launched a state certified training education program in 2018. This innovative program is the first of its kind in the nation, providing educational hours required for electrical licensure in Maine and New Hampshire. Through our training center, ReVision is able to elevate the opportunities for our current employee owners and provide workforce development for emerging professionals. Trainees earn valuable trade skills and licensing that will set them up for a lifetime of success in the electrical trade. This is an in-house training program where courses focus on code compliance and safety. Trainees work through their skills in our training center, a repurposed building that houses the technologies we deploy in the field. The training center is a valuable recruiting tool as well. ReVision Energy focuses on building diversity through our recruiting, hiring women and minorities in all positions within the company. Through this session we will talk on how the training center works, how employee owners enroll and participate in the program, as well as share some of our successes and lessons learned.

Full Description
There is a nationwide shortage of electricians due to a higher rate of retiring electricians than new workers entering the trade. The clean energy industry is a growing industry and to keep up with the demand we must attract and retain skilled workers. Conventional trade schools often require students to attend evening classes multiple nights a week, sometimes far from where they live. By combining online work with in person training scheduled around work obligations, we have been able to provide a much more reasonable schedule for our employee owners.
We have to think differently to solve the problems we are facing as an industry. We have to be creative in finding ways to attract and retain skilled workers, and also make a concerted effort to attract women and minorities into the field.
