Proposed Session Description
Salesian Boys and Girls Club of East Boston is a typical 1950-60's k-12 school building. The current heating system is oil fired hot water with perimeter baseboard radiation and traditional classroom unit ventilators. The pneumatic controls have failed, and the building is un-evenly heated and uncomfortable. The unit ventilators are noisy and disruptive. Air conditioning is supplied by noisy window units. This 40,000 square foot building originally was the gym/stage and cafeteria for the Salesian Catholic School system in East Boston. Natural gas cooking equipment was used in the kitchen and is being electrified. Two shell projects have been completed recently. Learn the challenges the design team faced to electrify the building!
Diversity and Inclusiveness
Salesian Boys and Girls Club of East Boston services the underserved diverse minority local community.

Full Description
Decarbonization and electrification of space heating is more complicated than just installing heat pumps. Decarbonization of commercial kitchens requires more power than you would think.
