This is unfortunately somewhat placeholder-y as I procrastinated and didn't have time to put this together. But I think it's a worthwhile session anyway.
Proposed Session Description
We will present on a few ongoing initiatives and projects underway - specifically:
1. All-electric deep energy retrofit of Eva White Apartments in Boston's South End, using pre-fabricated panels. This was a design effort funded by DOE's Advanced Building Construction initiative. The project will begin construction next April, but we'll share the design process, the technical design itself, cost data, financing plan, etc.
2. This is an "all in" project, which won't always make sense for every building. RMI will present on their Portfolio Energy Optimization tool, and how it can be used for "Zero Over Time" planning at the portfolio level. Winn and RMI have evaluated a subset of Winn's affordable multifamily portfolio, and is kicking off an evaluation with CPC and NYCEEC on trigger events that can make decarbonization an asset management & capital planning exercise.
3. As we electrify buildings, how are we integrating solar, storage, and connected devices? We're just starting our GEB project - DOE's Connected Communities - but could present on our plan and findings from GEB analysis of our portfolio.
Diversity and Inclusiveness
The session topic is focused on affordable housing. I would expect 2/3 of speakers to be women.
Learning Objectives
Attendees will learn about a first of its kind prefabricated panel approach for retrofitting buildings
Attendees will be inspired to disrupt the business as usual rehab approach & perspective - from building owners, to architects, to policy makers.
The session will offer a deep dive on the Zero Over Time concept, a tool and approach that anyone in the audience can consider.
The audience will learn about GEBs and REALIZE, a new RMI led initiative to transform the retrofit marketplace.

Full Description
Decarbonizing existing buildings is extremely difficult. Electrification doesn't always save money or make sense. This session will present a practical, matter of fact perspective on real estate development, affordable housing preservation, and aggressive decarbonization efforts - the what, why, and how from an owner, technical consultant, and policy perspective.
