Proposed Session Description
The Panelized light framed construction method as well as the use of CLT has been in the spotlight for each one's individual benefits and opportunities. What both have in common is the need for a parts-based model that generates panel drawings, machine files and installation instructions. This shared requirement, when merged into a single integrated model, opens up many opportunities to “mix and match” construction types and takes advantage of the benefits of each approach. Thoughtful object data attachment to the single integrated model and a flexible data management infrastructure allows teams to become true collaborators while leading them to high performance, low carbon building practices.
Diversity and Inclusiveness
Construction is still a male dominated industry. A female speaker will add gender diversity, challenge preconceptions and act as a role model to other women who are inspired by sustainable building practices.
Learning Objectives
Discuss the benefits and challenges of CLT and panelized light framed construction and explore the advantages of a hybrid approach.
Identify the coordination strategies between different construction types, manufacturers and team members that were implemented.
Recognize the necessity of a parts based Single Integrated Manufacturing Modeling approach that makes hybrids possible.
Explore what a flexible data management system designed for panelized passive house construction looks like and how it, combined with a data threaded production model completes the integrated data-driven design process.

Full Description
Offsite construction is playing a crucial role in the scaling and accessibility of high performance and Passive House construction. It will be impossible to meet any carbon reduction goals in the building sector without the involvement of rapid production and new technologies of premanufacturing facilities. When done right, the building will benefit from the appropriate choice of offsite manufactured components. But for a successful project, these components have to be coordinated, integrated and communicated into a collaborative, data driven system that allows all team members to contribute and benefit from combined knowledge.
