Proposed Session Description
We can better serve the masses (and the climate) if we drop the perfectionist trope in high-performance design and construction. With a modular mindset, it's possible to cut construction time by more than half for individual homes, and increase the numbers of homes an individual designer can oversee per year by a factor of 10-20 or more. From the metrics of the Pretty Good House, to rethinking architectural business models, to prefab offsite construction: lessons learned by BrightBuilt Home that can inform the greater AEC community on how to build more, build faster, and make a bigger impact in the housing realm.
Diversity and Inclusiveness
We do hope to address matters around accessibility / attainability of high performance, and in that context, would aim to speak to equity & inclusion.
Learning Objectives
Analyze the barriers buyers face in today's new home construction marketplace, and troubleshoot solutions.
Think critically about the cost effectiveness and constructibility of different building assemblies and specifications.
Describe how existing offsite construction infrastructure can serve to mobilize high-performance building, at scale.
Identify opportunities to modify existing business models to better serve greater numbers of homeowners, faster.

Full Description
This session aims to address the problem of the slow-drip of new high-performance homes, introduced primarily to the high-end, affluent marketplace. If we can arrive at better solutions for delivering high-performance single family homes in greater numbers, and accessible to a larger swath of the market, we'll be able to make a bigger impact on the health of both homeowners and the planet.
