Proposed Session Description
The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 is the largest ever climate investment by the Federal Government in American History. It will bring energy bill relief to U.S. households by incentivizing the adoption of more efficient, all electric appliances. A large component of the IRA fully recognizes the key role of highly efficient, variable-capacity heat pumps in slashing domestic GHG emissions and lowering energy costs for Americans. This session will interpret the legislation so that NESEA members can best utilize the funding for decarbonization program implementation.
Learning Objectives
Understand the 5 most relevant carbon reduction components of the legislation’s programs
Learn the specifics of the IRA’s tax incentives and rebates for moderate and low-income households
How to create and implement local energy efficiency workshops for IRA education and allocation
Understand how heat pumps were specifically labeled as a fast-track method for meeting 2030 and 2050 carbon reduction targets
Has this session been presented before?
Yes
When and Where?
Yes, at the October 2020 LES Conference in Manchester, NH
Session Format
Presentation followed by facilitated discussion or breakout groups
Session Format Details

Full Description
The IRA’s unprecedented funding and incentive levels will have historic impact for the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic Regions. NESEA attendees need to understand how the HVAC industry plans to collaboratively respond to the funding components related specifically to Heat Pumps. The conference theme of Scalable Solutions perfectly fits with this message since IRA funding is expected to continue through 2032. We fully expect Heat Pump use and acceptance to hockey stick as electrification of homes and business becomes the standard over the next decade. The Passive House, Net Zero, Net Zero Ready builders and related industry professionals will continue to lead by example as heat pump demand explodes.
