Proposed Session Description
Energy code compliance has been a perpetual problem and energy codes are growing increasingly complex. Third party certification provides a possible solution. Several jurisdictions across the country, such as New York State, have included Phius certification as an alternate compliance path to code compliance. This session will describe the Phius certification process and how it provides building departments with the certainty that a Phius certified building also meets the energy code.
Why is this session important?
Energy codes are a vital policy in addressing climate change. The need for energy code that generate savings beyond the model codes is paramount. Lack of compliance undercuts the potential energy savings and even in the best case scenario it takes years to improve compliance. Finding ways to increase compliance with advanced energy codes is one of our immediate tasks. This session by highlighting the ways a third party compliance process tied to an advance energy standards can provide a roadmap for realizing the potential energy savings from energy codes.
