Proposed Session Description
The construction industry contributes to a considerable amount of the global greenhouse emissions. In this presentation we will discuss the future of our planet, how urgently the construction industry must engage with designers, planners, contractors and manufacturers to promote a constructive dialog, and what practical strategies a planner can already apply today with the available technologies and tools, to positively and strongly impact the emissions of the building sector.
Why is this session important?
What is our role, as engineers and consultants, in the sustainability conversations, and who do we need at the table? What are the newest, realistic emission reduction targets to hit immediately in the construction industry, and how can we incorporate them into the design process without compromising on the quality of the work? How does the current and recent research contribute to practically reducing carbon footprint in the much-needed new housing and infrastructure for the growing world population ("gradient concrete" by Werner Sobek, disassembly of precast connections for reuse and recycling, etc.) [the session will be further developed and may include additional important points that I am not currently listing]
Diversity and Inclusiveness
Our NY office is certified by the City of New York as a WBE (Women-Owned Business). We seek to expand the exposure of our company and other WBE/MBEs in the industry, and hope that this opportunity to present our work and ideas for the future of the industry will be granted to us.
Learning Objectives
Participants will gain an understanding of the current status of the construction industry, in particular the concrete sector, and its contribution to GHG emissions
Participants will learn the role that concrete production, transportation and implementation plays in the global environmental emergency
Participants will learn about the latest innovations in construction materials, technologies and tools that aid in the reduction of the carbon footprint of a building
Participants will be exposed to real project applications where reuse of materials and components, as well as structural optimization, contribute to minimizing the use of new resources

Anything else you'd like to tell us about your session proposal?
I will be merging the work and findings of many of our engineers and researchers, located in several of our offices around the world. The idea is to keep the audience updated in regards to the latest and most relevant research, built work and conversations that are happening at a global level, which we believe is the key to a successful shift in the way the industry has been operating. I have presented for Building Energy Boston in 2017 and 2022 and would be honored to be a speaker again.
