Proposer Job Title
Program Director, Building Decarbonization: Commercial Properties and Networks
Proposer Additional Info
I oversee our large building decarbonization, thermal energy network, and workforce development programs. Sustainable Westchester is a non-profit organization that works with CBOs and is in some cases the CBO. We have worked to decarbonize homes and commercial properties for the past seven years.
Proposed Session Description
Want to go fast, go alone. Go far? Go together! Community Based Organizations (CBOs) make excellent partners, if you know how to identify them and work together effectively. We invite technical providers and CBO representatives to gather for an interactive experience drilling down into the mechanics of partnership. Importantly we will discuss how CBO engagement is a key to accelerating just building decarbonization and workforce development.
Why is this session important?
An under-utilized tool that could help the market scale-up is partnership with CBOs. The firms that are responsible for the work of decarbonizing include engineers, architects, and tradespeople. While they have the skill to implement, and their marketing and sales teams have the skill to promote, they lack the relationships with key institutions to demonstrate decarbonization and to ensure that the benefits are delivered to disadvantaged communities. Community based organizations seek to improve their communities and are essential partners.
Diversity and Inclusiveness
Yes, we will bring a speaker who works in DACs and the topic will address serving DACs through demonstration projects, thermal energy networks, and workforce development.
Learning Objectives

Comments about your speaker roster
We would bring a speaker that has worked with CBOs to accelerate just building decarbonization.
Anything else you'd like to tell us about your session proposal?
The speaker has been working on clean thermal energy network development so many of the examples shared will include that approach in addition to single-building decarbonization.
