Proposed Session Description
In 2021, Massachusetts passed extremely forward-thinking climate legislation. Now two years in, we have learned a lot about what is working, as well as the potential unintended consequences as we look ahead. From an economic, technological, supply chain and workforce development standpoint - there are a lot of lessons to be learned from our work on the ground delivering energy efficiency solutions to our service areas. We don't have all the answers - nobody does - but we are on the forefront.
Learning Objectives
Understand decarbonization at a more granular level.
Understand what it will take to decarbonize different segments: the economy, the supply chain, the workforce, and learn how to approach the complexity of integrating the different fronts of decarbonization.
Learn how to align technological advances with a trained workforce to meet customer needs
Benefit from our example and what we have learned that you can and cannot do, and where the economics do and do not make sense.

Full Description
Looking back at what we have learned from our work on the ground over the last two years, there is an opportunity to learn more about how to decarbonize at a granular level. What is it going to take to decarbonize the supply chain, the technology, the economy? Do we have the workforce to achieve our goals? How do we train a workforce and align them with the right technology, and is it all serving our ultimate goals of meeting customer needs working towards a clean energy future? It is a complex endeavor to think about how we can integrate all of these different facets of decarbonization, but we need to be more prepared and willing to grapple with that complexity. We can't shy away from the challenges. We need to understand where are the barriers to each of these things. In our organization, we have been tackling these challenges head on, so we have learned a lot about what we can and can't do already, and where the economics do and don't make sense. We think it's important for other organizations and professionals to learn from our successes and roadblocks, as much as it is for us to continue learning from other experts together.
