Proposed Session Description
ADUs can help us take advantage of existing infrastructure and developed land in order to make a bigger, faster impact on reducing carbon emissions while increasing availability of resilient housing stock. Join us as we explore exciting developments in ADU and density policies & incentives, review a cross section of ADU residents, and think collectively on deploying ADUs as a mechanism for rapidly increasing housing with manageable impact to infrastructures and the collective carbon footprint
Diversity and Inclusiveness
ADUs offer a mechanism for expanding housing options within the existing fabric of established neighborhoods. This, and some of the incentives and policies currently in practice or consideration by state and local governments, positions ADU as a means of providing more equitable housing options.
Learning Objectives
Ability to navigate state and local legislation, to enhance projects and help clients realize density and ADU incentive programs and initiatives.
Understanding of the ADU marketplace, to inform marketing campaigns and design approaches, if in the design and development spaces.
Tools for engaging lenders, and knowledge of lending structures, for financing ADUs.
Capacity to evaluate a property and understand its potential for an ADU, what type of ADU, and the capacity of a property to support a given sized ADU.

While specific individuals have yet to be identified, I have reached out to both the Mills Administration and the City of Boston, and they are very interested in participating, should the session be selected.

Full Description
This session is important because it speaks to housing equity, housing density, tapping existing municipal or site infrastructure rather than building on raw land, working with state and city legislatures to reduce barriers to permitting and construction, and durable and resilient building stock delivered in small, attainable packets - all of which also improves value for the property owner and improves options for renters, tenants, and extended family.
