Presentation Information
Who will my audience be?
BuildingEnergy NYC is attended by the NESEA community, a group of professionals and practitioners who:
- prefer rich data and proven results
- seek innovative materials and ideas
- prefer discussion and interactivity over lecture
- are eager to learn from mistakes as well as success stories
You can expect between 25-90 people in your session including architects, builders, building owners, building operators, designers, engineers, installers, lenders and financiers, policy professionals, property managers, and sustainability officers, ranging from emerging professionals to heralded experts. You can help build your audience by sharing news of your session with your network. More about that later.
How can I show slides with my presentation?
Each session room will have a computer (Windows). Bring your presentation—preferably as a PDF—on a USB flash drive. Please arrive early enough to load your presentation onto your room’s computer.
Do I need to submit my slides in advance?
If your session has more than one speaker, your session’s Champion or Moderator may ask for your presentation ahead of time to combine everyone’s into one smooth show. You do not have to submit your slides to NESEA before the conference.
Can I include videos in my presentation?
If you plan to include video, you must do two things. (1) Tell Susan Farber, NESEA Conference Manager, so that she can purchase additional sound service for your session room. (2) Embed the video in your presentation. Internet connections are not available at the speaker's podium, and hotspots are unreliable for streaming videos.
Are there any guidelines for slides?
Follow standard guidelines for quality presentations. Few slides and few words (or a graphic) on each slide. Large font size (at least 24 point).
What if I need technical assistance on the day of the conference?
Staff will be on hand to assist throughout the day. If you need help prior to your session, contact Conference Manager Susan Farber at sfarber@nesea.org.
What if I have other questions/concerns about speaking?
If you have any other questions please contact your Session Champion or Conference Manager Susan Farber at sfarber@nesea.org (413) 774-6051 ext. 17.
Session Room Information
What can I expect about the room where I will be presenting?
The TKP offers a typical session-room set-up: podium with fixed microphone; a table for panelists to sit with a microphone; a projector/screen for slides. A NESEA staffer or volunteer will make announcements to start the session.
Will lavalier mics be available?
No. Lavalier mics are very costly to rent at the TKP because each requires technical assistance from a TKP staff member to operate.
Will flip charts be available?
NESEA will have a limited number of easels, flip charts, and markers on hand. Please contact Conference Manager Susan Farber at sfarber@nesea.org in advance of the event if you require a flip chart.
Will you videotape my session?
Maybe. A select number of sessions will be recorded and shared with conference attendees and, later, with NESEA members and the public. You can opt out of being recorded on your speaker’s permission form. NOTE: All sessions held in East Village and West Village session rooms will be video-recorded; speakers have been notified.
Will you post my presentation after the conference?
Yes. NESEA staff will collect everyone’s presentations from the session room computers and post on our website. We do this because attendees frequently ask to review data slides after the conference. You can opt out when you complete the speaker’s permission form.
