Our speakers will discuss specific topics about Passive House construction, including: - Building envelope - podium vs. steel plank - Testing during construction - blower-door testing, duct testing, and fenestration (window) testing - Roofing systems - Price vs. Construction - the difference in processes, procurement, materials, and cost
Learning Objectives
Material selection - understanding what high-performance materials are suitable for Passive House construction.
Schedule is important - knowing the lead times of certain PH materials and the sequencing of installation will be essential in delivering a Passive House project on-time and within budget.
Understanding the different envelope details of Passive House construction and how they relate to performance.
Early collaboration and partnerships between owner/GC/subcontractor is key to a successful Passive House project.

Our speakers did a similar presentation last year about the basics of Passive House. This will be a more in-depth session about the specifics of the Passive House construction - the process, material selection and procurement, schedules, and key milestones.

Kate Starr, Project Manager, is a PHIUS+ certified builder who recently completed the first Passive House-certified residence hall in Massachusetts at Wheaton College. Rob Blanchard was the Project Executive on the Passive House project at Wheaton. Prior to the residence hall project, Rob completed the first Passive House-certified multi-family apartment building in New England, located in South Boston. Rich Lucht is the Vice President of Commodore's Institutional Group. He oversaw the residence hall project at Wheaton and is familiar with Passive House standards and principles.
