Proposer Additional Info
I am an up and coming Engineer at Nyle Systems where I started as a Product Line Engineer. After 3 years with Nyle I moved into a Sales Applications Engineer position where I organize and carry out trainings with our heat pump water heater product line across the world.
Proposed Session Description
Domestic heat pump water heaters may sound new but they have been around for 20+ years. The market focus on Net Zero and green building initiatives have shifted where HPWH technology is being used. HPWHs are entering these markets in force as they are the only water heater with an efficiency greater than 100%. With heating COPs up to 5 using this technology and the potential to use the resulting cooling capacity for space conditioning it is easy to see the benefits of this technology.
Diversity and Inclusiveness
The speaker who will be presenting in this session is a young Engineer in the industry with aspirations to foster energy efficient and green technology to keep our world clean and sustainable for generations to come.
Learning Objectives
Carbon footprint & greenhouse gas emissions: To educate the attendees about the carbon footprint of natural gas, resistive electric, and heat pump water heaters for domestic water heating including the annual CO2 emissions per person with each type of technology.
Economic feasibility: Here I will show how heat pump the heat pump plus storage combination will shift the electrical load throughout the day resulting in the owner spending less money to operate the equipment by reducing the energy used during peak load hours on the electrical grid. I will also touch on Net Zero incentives and how they tie into this technology, I will also briefly go over a few of the many incentive programs across the US for this technology.
HP+S system overview: The purpose of this section will be to educate the attendees on how a heat pump plus storage system works. I will discuss the concept of this system, some installation examples; as well as crucial design factors such as the peak load, peak load durations, duration between peak loads for recovering the tank, etc.

Full Description
Natural gas is being phased out in regions all around the United States. With new building requirements restricting the use of natural gas equipment and green initiative incentives becoming more common what should Design Engineers turn to for domestic water heating? This session will focus on domestic Heat Pump Water Heaters as a viable solution. The session will layout the feasibility of domestic heat pump water heating technology in new building designs and retrofits.
