Proposed Session Description
Green Building is a critically important strategy to reduce costs and address climate change. We cannot achieve the ambitious targets of reducing carbon emissions with the current workforce. We need to rapidly increase numbers of individuals in green building fields. Whether designers, green building professionals, engineers, general contractors, envelope consultants, heat pump installers, or solar installers, we all need to have more diverse employees and more minority, women, and disadvantaged owned companies that we hire, collaborate with, and refer. Climate change represents an important opportunity. Businesses that embrace diversity will be in the best position to meet growing need for a skilled workforce. How can we ramp up so quickly? How specifically can you give new entrants, subcontractors, and up in your industry? How do you make your company more diverse? How can you hire, diverse businesses, incumbent workers to increase diversity? Learn how several programs such as the MassCEC internship program, directories, and workforce initiatives like Emerald Cities Collaborative’s Contractor Training Academy or Roxbury Center for Financial Empowerment’s Bridge to Green Jobs programs. In this interactive panel discussion, hear the perspective and advice of experienced practitioners and propose your own ideas and thoughts.
