Proposed Session Description
We have been fixated on the "what" of sustainable design. Rating systems, net-zero energy, and “Well” buildings are all wonderful metrics but until we dig deep and change the way we think and the way we design, we will never see the kinds of changes that are desperately needed to fight climate change. This session offers one pathway to systemic change. Other transformative methods will be uncovered during the in-session Workshop and will can be discussed in the last segment of the session.
Why is this session important?
We have been fixated on the "what" of sustainable design. Rating systems, net-zero energy, and well buildings are all wonderful rating systems but until we dig deep and change the way we think and the way we design, we will never see the kinds of changes that we need to fight climate change. This session offers one pathway to systemic change. Other transformative methods can be discussed in the Q/A session.
Diversity and Inclusiveness
The focus of this session is on energy efficiency. However, the importance of “empathy across difference” will be discussed as a method for creating more holistic and equitable design projects. This includes diversifying the stakeholders in the design process.
Learning Objectives
Understand the importance of empathy across time, space, and difference as pre-requisites for effective high-performance building design
Apply an emergent design process to explore multiple design options at multiple steps with multiple digital validations leading towards a high-performance building design
Use energy modeling in cost-effective ways to build accountability into the design process
Use energy modeling to size PV panel arrays to reach net-zero ready building designs
Has this session been presented before?
Yes
When and Where?
Presented before but not as a workshop style event. American Collegiate Schools of Architecture in March of 2021
Additional Comments
