Christian Weeks is the CEO of enVerid Systems, a pioneer and global leader in indoor air quality and energy efficiency. Christian is an entrepreneurial general manager and business strategist who is passionate about bringing disruptive technologies to market and scaling innovative early to mid-stage companies. Prior to enVerid, Christian was an executive with EnerNOC, which was acquired by Enel X, the Enel Group’s advanced energy services business line. During Christian’s ten years at EnerNOC, he held various leadership role in sales, strategy, and general management including heading up EnerNOC’s business in Australia and New Zealand, EnerNOC’s global demand response business, and, following the acquisition by Enel, the North America energy services business.
Proposed Session Description
For over 30 years, the drive for building energy efficiency has taken priority over indoor environmental quality. With COVID-19, the pendulum swung in the direction of indoor environmental quality. Now, in the "new normal" post COVID, we must solve for both indoor environmental quality and energy efficiency at the same time. Given the health, economic, and climate crises we face, it would be irresponsible not to do so. But how do we do we solve for these seemingly contradictory goals of better indoor air quality and more energy efficiency? The answer lies in applying ASHRAE’s performance-based Indoor Air Quality Procedure (IAQP) with advanced filtration technology to deliver better indoor air quality more efficiently with less outside air ventilation. This approach reduces the need for energy-intensive heating and cooling of outside air and is similar to the approach NASA and the U.S. Navy use in spaceships and submarines where outside air ventilation is impossible. Instead, NASA and the Navy use adsorbent filters that capture CO₂ and other contaminants from return air so that indoor air can be safely recirculated. Join this session to learn how this same approach can be applied in commercial buildings to deliver better indoor air quality more efficiently.

This session provides a pathway for balancing occupant health, ventilation, and energy efficiency. Participants will learn about ASHRAE's performance-based Indoor Air Quality Procedure (IAQP) and advanced filtration technologies that can be used to capture CO₂ and other contaminants from return air so that it can be safely recirculated.

ROUND 1 - MAYBE/ NO - Could be very interesting - but I don't have enough information to know if the presentation will be appealing or too techy (may be a better fit for an ASHRAE conference? It may also be sales-pitchy on behalf of enVerid.

YES. Apropriate conversation given COVID-19 and the the challenges of addressing both indoor environmental quality and energy efficiency at the same time. 
 
Both speakers have the comprehensive knowledge to discuss the technical aspects of IAQP, the enVerid product. Good thing is that enVerid's CEO is not the presenter, and session discussion will not be product specific.

ROUND 1 DISCUSSION: Proposal very technical/specific. Hard for reviewer to know how strong the proposal is. Another take: very timely to have this talk around IAQ. Addresses intersection of cost of energy consumption + increasing IAQ - maybe there isn't a tradeoff/choice. Fatou has seen demo elsewhere - impressed. Speakers don't work for the product. Gwen echoes as Yes.

Had a call with Christian Weeks from enVeried and they are tailoring the content toward EE Consultants and Owners on how IAQ helps with local law 97 compliance, wile reference the case statudy mentioned in the proposal. This approach will make sure content is not too technical and suitable for a broader audience, will aslo expand on the equity aspect of buildings exposed to higher levels of outside air pollution, and IAQ + EE cost.-
 
Recommending a YES to this session for 90mins and speakers are Dan + Anthony (IAQ filtration, EE, Case study and LL97 compliance) and Marwa Zaatari (Contaminats, IAQ filtration, cost and equity)

Anthony Montalto of JB&B will provide an overview of ASHRAE's Indoor Air Quality Procedure (IAQP), it's applicability for different building types, and how applying the IAQP can help buildings with LL97 compliance. Dan Pugliese will then present a case study showcasing how IAQP + advanced filtration technology was used in a marquee building in NYC to save energy, improve indoor air quality, and reduce carbon emissions. If there is interest, and we have 90 minutes, we can also incorporate Dr. Marwa Zaatari into the presentation. Dr. Zaatari is an ASHRAE Distinguished Lecturer, a member of the ASHRAE Epidemic Task Force Commercial team, a member of the USGBC Board of Directors, and one of the driving forces behind the Indoor Air Quality Procedure.
