Building America is a public / private collaboration between the US Department of Energy, building science researchers and the residential construction industry. This workshop will feature representatives from four of the ten national research teams, presenting the latest research findings on new and existing cold-climate residential building enclosures. Results from the foundation to the roof will be discussed, and we might even include a smattering of HVAC approaches and measurements. Will my floor joists rot if I insulate the inside of my masonry building? Will my sheathing rot in my double stud wall? How risky is dense packing an existing roof? How can I do exterior insulation in new and existing buildings? What about foundations? Spray foam, anyone?. This advanced session is designed to help you choose what to do, based on your tolerance for risk and your team’s ability to execute.
