Proposed Session Description
Residential Retrofits for Energy Equity (R2E2) provides deep technical assistance to state, local, and tribal governments as well as community-based organizations to jumpstart energy upgrades for single family and multifamily affordable housing. ACEEE, Elevate, Emerald Cities Collaborative, HR&A, and People's Climate received philanthropic funds to lower utility bills, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve residents’ health, create good-paying local jobs, and help advance racial equity.
Why is this session important?
This session will inspire new strategies and opportunities for diverse teams to scale deep energy retrofits and decarbonization efforts, while maximizing new federal sources to do so.

Yes, seems like it will provide information about funding innovations. Proposal has limited details but sounds promising and like the type of content we're looking for

YES - great topic to learn about how money is being made available. This is a broad audience and we should help direct presentation to likely attendees as much as possible.

MAYBE - unique information is appealing. I especially like the job training opportuinity objective. Concerned about limited details on content and speakers. Is this a panel discussion or presentation?

Round 1 discussion: From DOE - Collaboration among ACEEE and a lot of other organizations. Only hesitation is how far along are they in this? Need to confirm what the results are or where they are in the program. Who would be able to access the money? If it is a new funding stream, then that is unique. Need to really confirm in round 2 what information they can share by October. Can we highlight the equity lens here?

Round two recommendation - YESResponses to questions:Q: How far along in the R2E2 RESIDENTIAL RETROFITS FOR ENERGY EQUITY program are you?  Will results be part of the presentation? Tied to the learning objectives?A: Sample projects, results and best practices can be incorporated into the session that are tied to the learning objectives {a) Learn how to develop job training opportunities, b) Understand about new federal rebates and incentives for decarbonizing housing, c)How Philanthropic/ESG funds are invested in decarbonization, d) How to create a collaborative public private partnership}.  Completed projects are smaller scale compared to what may potentially be built using the soon-to-be released IRA funding.Q: Who can access this funding?  A: Multi-family building owners, really no restrictions beyond that.  (Per proposal: State, local, tribal governments, community based organizations.)Q: Is the funding coming from a new source?A: Funding will come federally via the IRA, later this year.Q: Can the session speak to the types of projects that have been financed to date?A: Yes.  Funding via rebates through DOE, not the larger funding source from the IRA expected later this year.Q: Are there any results from projects compelted to date demonstrating realization of the progam goals?A: Yes, the session can speak to this element.Q: What information will be ready to be shared by October?A: IRA funding should be available by then and there will likely be states with programs ready to implement once the funding arrives, can speak to how to scale solutions with these unprecedented IRA funds, how to operationally expand from small to large scale.Q: Can equity be a highlight of this session?A: A lot of the funds from the IRA require that they be spent on lower income users, so equity will be baked in.  Opportunities to discuss workforce development and mentors, how to serve renters.Q: Speakers - who will they likely be?A: Speakers will be threshed out in the coming months, but in general anticipate having a federal representative (DOE), a state energy officer (likely NYS), and a project implementer.

Comments about your speaker roster
Adam Hasz asked if I could submit this on his behalf. I think they will have others from Elevate, Emerald Cities, and/or HR&A join - any of which would be great speakers. This session is informational -- sharing updates/efforts from DOE BTO relevant to the NESEA community.
