Proposed Session Description
Net Zero Operational and Net Zero Embodied Carbon goals need to merge, now, if we’re going to meet carbon emission reduction targets. Ultimately, it doesn’t matter where the emissions come from, whether it’s the operations of a building or the materials, construction process, and end of life. Reducing Green House Gas emissions is the ultimate goal and is only achievable through a holistic approach. This session address where design decisions have the biggest impact and which assembly components are lower emitting.
Diversity and Inclusiveness
Case studies include predicted versus actual energy usage from affordable housing developments and addresses indoor air quality as well as embodied carbon content of materials.
Learning Objectives
1. Examine the impacts of embodied carbon
2. Learn the time value of embodied carbon
3. Determine which strategies to use when assessing assembly components
4. Review tools for benchmarking and measuring embodied carbon emissions
