Proposed Session Description
Boston Building Resources Reuse Center has served as a source of high-quality reused building materials for nearly three decades. We'll share learnings about how to build local markets for donated and rescued materials, what works and what doesn't, and perhaps most importantly, how to build and engage a strong and dynamic community of shoppers and supporters.
Why is this session important?
With landfill space in New England increasingly at a premium, facilitating the reuse of building materials continues to be a very compelling option for mitigating environmental impact from unwanted building materials. Giving new life to used building materials is also an effective way to contain project costs and stretch already tight budgets in our current environment of persistent, high inflation.

NO. Interesting topic for sure! However, does not seem to fit the theme and is solely focused on the operations of one organization.

Round 1: NoWhile the submission does address decarbonization by lowering the embodied carbon potential of materials through reuse, I do not think it is a good fit for this conference where we are finance and technology focused.

Diversity and Inclusiveness
More than 75% of the shoppers at the Boston Building Resources Reuse Center speak a language other than English as their primary language. Approximately 75% of sales are made to low- and moderate-income individuals who qualify for "Plus Membership" at the Reuse Center.
Learning Objectives
How to identify, source, and procure reused and surplus materials that customers find compelling.
Gain an understanding of the unique elements of building a diverse and sustained base of shoppers who are enthusiastic about reuse and great prices.
Techniques and approaches to delivering educational content that supports reuse and empowers individuals to tackle their own home maintenance and repair projects.
Pitfalls when running an operation where inventory is "free" and seemingly endless.
