Submitting proposal on behalf of the Digital Buildings team at Schneider Electric.
Proposed Session Description
Buildings are at the epicenter of our daily wellbeing – where we breathe most of our air and have most interpersonal interactions – but they also consume about 30% of the world’s energy via their construction and operations, and account for almost 40% of annual global greenhouse gas emissions. Add on top of that the fact that in a COVID-19 environment, the biggest challenge is to continuously adapt to new obstacles during times of crisis that can impact the continuity of operations and quickly change business priorities. Expectations for building services, driven by health and culture needs, continue to rise among employees, patients, students and guests. The proper technology used in the right way can create differentiators, improving the comfort, safety, health, and overall experience for occupants, plus providing actionable insights and better control for owners and operators. Electrification and digitization create a connected infrastructure that can help reduce energy waste. Remote monitoring capabilities enable 24/7 supervision, diagnostics, and support critical infrastructure. These subjects and more will be explored in this session with David Rellinger, who will also relate a number of NY-based customers who have found success utilizing all electric and all digital capabilities.
Why is this session important?
The world’s population is now spending most of our time indoors – in fact, it is estimated that we will spend close to 90% of our lives inside. But yesterday’s buildings were not built for today’s challenges, and we must meet today’s challenges now for a better future. Simply put, decisions can and must be made based on what is best for people like you and me. Why wouldn’t we pay more attention to the buildings in which we work and learn, creating safer and healthier environments, if we’re spending most of our lives within them? Smart buildings are the future.
Diversity and Inclusiveness
Creating smart, reliable, and energy efficient buildings is not only about the sustainability of the space but also the well-being, safety and health of the people in the building. The future of smart and healthy buildings puts an emphasis on a people-centric approach, taking into consideration all the of the individuals using a shared space and leveraging digital technologies to offer a better experience for each. During this session, we will explore how various industries can adopt smart building technologies to create more inclusive and flexible environments for their building occupants. For example, as many organizations are exploring new ways to get the most out of their office buildings, we are seeing a shift towards a hybrid work model in order to accommodate the limitations of childcare due to COVID, and the impact it had on parents and their daily work schedule. With the shift to a hybrid work model, more organizations are looking to smart technologies to manage the spaces remotely throughout the day during spikes of occupancy and tenant vacancy to ensure the building is not only serving the needs of the individuals but also remaining efficient and sustainable while doing so. Attendees of this session will walk away with: o Real life examples of how smart building technologies not only increase a building’s energy efficiency but can also help in creating a more inclusive space for all occupants in the building o Understanding of the smart building solutions that are available today to support the creation of a people-centric building environment o How they can implement smart building technology into existing and/or future buildings with an emphasis on creating safe, healthy and comfortable spaces of occupants
