Proposed Session Description
A review of some of the more significant issues caught and how they were corrected on a new construction medical offices building, as well as a more general discussion of unique challenges and effective strategies for both medical facilities and buildings working towards electrification.
Diversity and Inclusiveness
These types of considerations are key to building effective future policies and building high performance buildings
Learning Objectives
Understand how commissioning supports the design and construction process, and in particular key aspects where it plays a critical role in health care and mission critical facilities.
Gain insights from issues encountered on this project to improve on mechanical, electrical and plumbing designs and improve pro-active problem solving for pressure points common to medical, all-electric and high-efficiency buildings going forward
Leverage lessons learned and effective strategies to improve problem solving and to detect and correct issues sooner and more effectively
Understand key post-design points where designer, owner and contractor specialists involvement in a project can make the difference between successes and failure

Full Description
This is a great example of the types of issues and unforeseen interactions that can come into play when multiple competing guidelines/driving forces are at play - particularly as we push the envelope to try and make more and more buildings fully electric.
We have chosen a project that included whole building commissioning involvement throughout (from design review, building envelope inspections and post-construction) and showcases some of the pressure points and decisions that come into play, as well as the successes. We hope that by sharing some of these, and the solutions and lessons learned, stakeholders with interests ranging from future medical projects, to electrification and general high efficiency design will learn something from this presentation.
