Proposed Session Description
The session will cover the innovative and scalable decarbonization financing model, created through a partnership with NYSERDA and NYS HCR, to streamline developers’ ability to access and deploy clean energy funding. Beginning in June 2021, NYSERDA and HCR co-developed and launched a pilot of the Clean Energy Initiative program, which integrates technical assistance and clean energy funding into HCR’s affordable housing finance application process. This panel will cover the collaboration, program design, opportunity for scaling, lessons learned to date, and highlight a project currently participating. The panel will discuss the design process of the program, highlighting the agencies joint efforts in reaching CLCPA carbon reduction goals.
Why is this session important?
With the Governors 2 million climate friendly home goal by 2030, New York States CLCPA goals of at least 85% reduction of GHG by 2050, and a mandate to ensure at least 40% of clean energy spending is targeted to Disadvantaged Communities (DAC), this session will get at the heart of a market-leading approach to deliver funding and financing of high-quality affordable housing that advances health, equity, and climate outcomes. Decarbonizing our housing stock will be a key measure of success in reaching our states goals, with the buildings sector contributing 33% of NYS GHG emissions, the largest contributing sector in the state, just above transportation. This session will discuss how streamlining program design can benefit the states potential to scale and position affordable housing community as market leader in affordable and sustainable housing.
