Proposed Session Description
As our electric grid is approximately 35% efficient from the plant to the plug, and Vermont is the only state in the country that is non-carbon based electricity, converting to heat pumps in most of the Northeast, and the US, creates more carbon than making your building more efficient and moving to 90+ efficiency boiler/furnace. If states want us to convert to electricity, states must first convert more of their grid to alternatives, and these commitments are far down the road. Northeast energy policy is not focusing on retrofit of existing buildings, particularly those that are not suited to electrification.
Diversity and Inclusiveness
Electrification without representation denies equity specifically to the low income community.
Learning Objectives
Participants will acknowledge that many buildings are not made for electrification
Participants will understand that the Northeast, and US electricgrid, is still primarily carbon based
Participants will understand that vast investment in renewable energy and efficiency needs to be performed prior to demanding electrification
Participants will learn to speak openly with policy and technical experts about carbon and buildings

Full Description
in 50 years, 75% of our existing buildings will still be here, and many are not suited for passive house retrofit or electrification. They need retrofit, possibly deep energy that is not passive house.
