Proposed Session Description
A deep energy retrofit can be daunting to many property owners and managers due to its costs, inconveniences to residents, and worries about actual savings. Why did the Board as well as the property manager of the Fairview, a 424-unit multifamily residence located in Queens, New York, decide to implement a deep energy retrofit? Why did they choose an upgrade package that incorporated an oil-to-gas conversion, chiller upgrade, building-wide lighting upgrades, and installation of a combined heat and power (CHP) system and a rooftop solar system? And why did the engineering consultant EN-POWER GROUP advise the Board to choose these measures for the building?
As both Massachusetts and New York have pioneering policies that push buildings go greener, property owners and managers will have questions about upgrade options, while engineers, architects, and contractors will want to gain a better understanding of property owners’ concerns as well as the technical challenges of project implementations. This session creates a platform for a direct conversation with property owners and project implementers, offering attendees an opportunity to learn the perspectives of property owners and management, the challenges of upgrade implementation and system integration, and the benefits of a deep energy retrofit.

Comments about your speaker roster
We think a combination of the property manager, a board member, and a project lead is a good combination that can provide different perspectives as well as useful information to attendees, but we are open to suggestions from the Content Committee.
