Proposed Session Description
As we collectively rush to electrification, there’s one essential truth we must keep in mind: electrification is not necessarily decarbonization! Electrification done wrong can actually bring us further away from our goal of decarbonization. We propose to share some of what we have observed relative to the near misses, blind spots, misinformed assumptions, unintended consequences, and stubborn entrenched that have made electrification efforts fall short of the decarbonization that we need.
Learning Objectives
Recognize at least 4 pitfalls that could erase decarbonization benefits of heat pump applications
Identify building measures that are essential to allowing heat pump systems to provide benefits
Believe that heat pump cooling is not the same thing as dehumidification
Recognize non-heat pump strategies with big operational carbon impact
