I am dynamic presenter who has presented AIA CEU's to hundreds of architects and engineers.
Proposed Session Description
Mass-walled buildings can withstand the worst that Mother Nature can throw at us. As concrete buildings can last hundreds of years, this session highlights strategies to optimize their embodied and operating carbon. We look at the science: where are we with lowering the embodied carbon of concrete? What types of insulated mass walls are there? What about thermal bridges? How can insulated thermal mass walls shift electric HVAC demand? Why is this especially important in affordable housing?
Diversity and Inclusiveness
Insulated thermal mass is especially valuable in affordable housing, because it creates exceptional comfort, quiet, and safety. The thermal lag time inherent in insulated thermal mass gives tenants the ability to shift electric HVAC demand to periods of off-peak utility rates, delivering a revenue stream from energy cost savings that can be diverted to more impactful purposes.
Learning Objectives
Attendees will be able to recognize the most energy efficient insulation configurations for mass walls, including the value of continuous insulation.
Attendees will be able to identify key advantages of using insulated thermal mass in resilient, sustainable, affordable housing. (Hint: storm proof, low carbon/energy efficient, deliver a revenue stream to tenants from energy cost savings.)
Attendees will be able to explain the difference between, and relative importance of, steady state R-values and effective R-values.
Attendees will be able to recognize the opportunity to shift demand of electric HVAC to periods of off-peaks rates.

Additional Comments
This session is not just a sales tool for NRG Block. The presentation describes these continuously insulated thermal mass walls: traditional cavity wall, insulated concrete sandwich panel, insulated concrete forms, and insulated concrete masonry units.

Anything else you'd like to tell us about your session proposal?
The science behind insulated thermal mass is rock solid. Thousands upon thousands of homes and businesses employ insulated thermal mass: cavity walls with insulation exterior to thermal mass, insulated concrete sandwich panels, insulated concrete forms, and continuously insulated concrete masonry units. There are pros and cons to each, and these are worth knowing.

Full Description
We need to immediately plug in simple, proven, off the shelf technology that delivers the most good for the most people, for the least amount of money. We have to consider long term value over initial cost. Lower embodied carbon concrete is here. Low operating carbon, insulated thermal mass buildings are simple and affordable. For low income people, they can also be safe havens that are healthy, quiet, comfortable, secure, storm proof, bullet proof, fire proof, low maintenance, and attractive.
