The building sector produces a third of all waste, much of which ends up in landfill. While insulation products make up only 1% of that waste, insulation contributes to global warming and other environmental impacts within our current take-make-waste economy. Due to these environmental impacts, it is imperative that the building industry transitions to a circular economy in which building products, like insulation, be recycled or reused at end-of-life. This presentation will explore the need to transition to a circular economy, using stone wool insulation as a case study detailing how it can support a circular, regenerative built environment.
