Boston 2023 Areas of Focus
Proposed Session Description
The 2021 IECC has a more inclusive testing option (C402.5.3) that will hopefully allow for more buildings to pursue a testing option utilizing ASTME779. We have completed ASTM E779 testing numerous times in the past and have learned a lot through our experiences. Set-up and execution can have a lot of hidden pitfalls, avoiding these will allow for a more accurate, smoother test, yielding a increased likelihood of usable test results.
Diversity and Inclusiveness
Boston has a severe housing shortage and as the city works to fill that gap it is important that new homeowners and residents have energy efficient residences available. Also, as utility rates are continuing to increase, it is important that any new Boston residents have affordable utility bills to lessen their financial burden.

Full Description
Massachusetts has a great wealth of experienced HERS Raters with plenty of proficiency with blower door operation. Only a small about of training would be needed to bring the entire workforce up to being able to fulfill this testing option for larger buildings in MA.
