Proposed Session Description
Rising temperatures and increasing electricity rates are making cooling more expensive for building owners and operators. The combined effect has resulted in a 45% and 72% increase in ventilation cooling costs for New York City and Boston, respectively in the last decade. Indoor Air Quality Procedure (IAQP), which is a performance-based indoor air quality design, is an energy efficient way to maintain healthy indoor environment in buildings and offset 50-70% of the ventilation cooling costs.

Full Description
Engineers, utilities, building owners and facility personnel in New England region are all being tasked to reduce energy usage in their buildings and on their designs. The rising cost of energy partnered with climate change are driving a greater and urgent need for meaningful pathways to drive improvement. Laws and regulations such as BERDO and LL 97 outline the need for increased energy efficiency and reduced carbon emissions. Climate resiliency programs by the federal government highlight the need for increased resiliency of built environment to changing outdoor temperature and pollution conditions and provide healthy spaces for all. IAQ procedure is a tool that drives meaningful improvement in all areas defined above. The IAQP design has been deployed successfully in many commercial buildings in the Northeast and validated by organizations like Harvard, US DOE and Con Edison. This conference session will be a great opportunity to discuss how and why to pursue IAQP design.
