Proposed Session Description
Find out how developers are making a big splash in water heating while slashing their large multifamily building energy consumption. For some time, domestic hot water was seen as the "final frontier" to fully electrifying our building stock. This session will dive into examples of large central heat pump water heater systems developers have installed in the NYC metro area, that are now operational. How are they performing? What are their first and ongoing costs? Are tenants and owners satisfied?
Why is this session important?
Large scale implementation of central heat pump water heaters is still relatively new to our climate. What lessons do owners, consultants, designers, and contractors take from these already-installed examples to benefit upcoming projects? What are the key commissioning activities that ensure optimal performance? What have been the biggest challenges to implementing this newer technology? How are these systems working in practice? Now is the time we need to instill confidence in this newer technology for widespread adoption- and with new legislation in New York banning fossil fuels, the wave is coming!
Diversity and Inclusiveness
While the session content will not adress JEDI directly, our speaker roster represents diversity in skill/trade, age, and gender.
Learning Objectives
Understand the costs and how to best implement central HPWHs in large multifamily buildings in our climate.
See examples of operational HPWH systems.
Hear feedback from implementers and end users on operations and maintenance of the systems.
Learn lessons about commissioning of these systems.
Has this session been presented before?
No
Target Audiences Level of Expertise
Level 2 - Some prior knowledge helpful.
Session Format Details
20 minutes reviewing designs and installs of HPWHs in two complete projects, 20 minutes reviewing commissioning and operations feedback of the systems, 10 minutes for Q&A, 10 minutes for breakout groups by: developers, designers, commissioning agents/contractors
Comments about your speaker roster
The intention of this roster is to have diverse voices across the disciplines that must work together to implement these systems. Proposer is open to changing the format of the presentation in the way the content committee feels is best suited to the audience/conference intentions.
