Proposed Session Description
Configurable and energy-efficient smart buildings play a central role in decarbonizing society. However, smart buildings cannot be designed merely from the energy point of view: it is crucial to observe human factors too. We spend most of our lives inside, and the way buildings respond to our needs can increase or decrease our quality-of-life. By diving into new models and tools for smarter energy use and healthier buildings, this session will bring together leading developers, to explore the importance of designing and developing smart systems and buildings that are good for both the environment and people.

Buildings make up about 40 % of CO2 emissions, and with most of these emissions being caused by the energy use, it is crucial that we rethink how to optimize energy use in our buildings. Smart buildings reflect an innovative and flexible solutions for energy optimization, however these systems need to consider a plethora of factors, such as the effect of indoor environments on wellbeing. To be able to develop smart systems that are good for both the environment and people, and that takes into considers the potential misalignment between energy optimization and wellbeing, the use of data and management tools are of essence.
