been a mason for over 40 years. Discovered masonry heaters about 30 years ago, been selling and installing since.
Proposed Session Description
Why did i become involved with masonry heaters: they have been used in all the cold countries in Scandinavia and Europe for centuries to heat there homes. A short hot fire heats a mass be it a bakeoven or fireplace, through a series of passages and the delivers a gentle radiant heat back into the houyse for 24-36 hours after the fire is out. I would go over the different types of heaters and how they are designed and explain how they work. I have some short videos of installs and pictures of centuries old heaters. They can also be retrofitted into existing homes, and are a great way to supplement heat in net -zero houses when the sun is not shining. They work best in the new stretch code homes as they are highly insulated . I put a heater in a new home of mine 30 years ago and was hooked. I've been heating with wood for 50 years and went from burning 6 cords in a soot belching wood stove to heating my current home with just 2 cords with a masonry heater. They are cleaner and emit less particulates than a pellet stove..I participated in a NESEA conference several years ago and was asked by a attendee what i was doing there with a fireplace. It's time for masonry heaters to become mainstream in this country
