Proposed Session Description
Anyone who builds or retrofits low energy homes knows that long term performance depends on getting moisture management details right. Flaws in the air and vapor control layers may not only compromise comfort, efficiency and indoor air quality, but may also lead to premature failure. The requirement for meticulous detailing and installation is only magnified when using newer approaches and materials to reduce the embodied carbon of construction.
Monitoring can play a critical role in understanding and managing these risks. The presenters in this session will share what they have learned about the real-world failure potential of riskier assemblies through monitoring. By learning how to develop their own in-house monitoring programs, attendees will be empowered to support their transitions to carbon-smarter construction practices.
Diversity and Inclusiveness
It honestly doesn't feel like this session does much to address these areas unfortunately.

Full Description
Many in our industry are quick to declare what will or wont work, and are frequently skeptical of ideas that sound risky. The best way to manage risk while exploring creative strategies is to monitor their performance and share what you've found. I think this session will show attendees that with the tools we have today anyone can try new things and not just hope and pray they perform.
