Proposed Session Description
To meet climate targets and to make electrification on a large scale feasible, the entire building stock will have to be retrofitted to very low load levels. The question becomes how low to go to balance between the investment of carbon in the envelope upgrades and the operational carbon reduction overall over the lifetime of the building. A new retrofitting certification and guideline frame work developed by Phius aims to make resilience the guardrail to determine optimal upgrades.
Learning Objectives
How to optimize a building for resilience during winter and summer extreme weather events
How to optimize for the total cost of carbon (embodied and operational)
How to stage improvements over time
How to quality assure the process to guarantee actual performance
