Carter was awarded the NESEA Zero Net Energy Homes Public Impact Award in 2013. "You have created a market for and built more zero net homes than any member of our community. The buildings you help create are amazing models of efficiency, at prices that are affordable to a mass audience. We thank you for your hard work and dedication to transforming our new housing stock into net zero and beyond."
Proposed Session Description
Join Carter Scott for a presentation and discussion on permitting a residential climate resilient community, Jacobson Farm, in Amherst, NH. The journey went all the way to the New Hampshire Supreme Court. The 120 acre project is a net positive energy, farm to table community of 39 homes. Resilient features will be discussed (like the aquifer below the farm & home options). See the Net Zero housing plans from 486 SF to over 3,000 SF. Find out what worked for the town, neighbors and the developer!
Diversity and Inclusiveness
Housing is often exclusionary, with new homes selling for over a million dollars. The session describes ways to integrate Workforce Housing into a new residential community through both stand alone structures, multi-family structures, and incorporated into new single family homes as Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs).

Full Description
How do you permit projects with the Not In My By Back Yard (NIMBY) nature of existing residents of a community? How do you integrate Workforce Housing into a project with higher lot and home values? How can you offer climate resilient features like solar, battery back-up, superinsulation, pellet stoves, and Passive Homes without breaking the bank? How can we develop and build sustainable communities that may be able to better withstand future environmental and societal shocks?
