Proposed Session Description
The U.S. is experiencing a deficit of more than 5 million homes, pushing home prices to unfathomable highs. We turn, to construction as a solution, and our shared concern, is that NEW does not Equal Energy Efficient. Cities & states around the nation are starting to require that all new residential construction is Net Zero, as soon as 2030. This change, while wonderful, has consequences. Building a home is not an inexpensive venture, and with Net Zero, requiring months of design and engineering, before breaking ground, costs rise. We can not expect contractors to foot this bill, nor new home owners to pay even higher asking prices. This is where BTF provides a solution for home owners and builders alike: Stock Net Zero.
Why is this session important?
Launched in 2015 BTF Designs set out to provide home plans that merged architectural and mechanical within the design process. BTF provides stock net zero home plans, at a new industry standard. An industry standard we are one of the first in the nation to achieve. An industry standard designed around contractors' needs. The problem: NEW does not Equal Energy Efficient. The current housing shortage, is significant. The U.S. is currently more than 5 million homes short of the demand, from would-be home buyers. These homes simply do not exist. And numbers are rising. The 5 million of today, is up 1.4 million from just 2019. And this lack of supply has pushed home prices to unfathomable highs— up nearly 20% last Each of us are here today because we see the negative effects of climate change. We are here with a shared interest in the building industry. And share a passion for creating positive change. We see the need for high efficiency buildings & carbon reduction. We see the gaps in our beloved building industry. And are looking for ways to contribute. Ways to fill the gaps between the fossil fuel demands of today - and the carbon neutral buildings of tomorrow. BTF invites you to join us, as we fill one of these gaps in the residential building segment. Cities & states around the country are passing standards for energy efficiency in new construction. Including climate action plans, building regulation, stretch codes and 2030 pledges. Already states & cities are requiring that all new residential construction meet or exceed Net Zero by 2030. This is Big! And the list is growing by the day! And this change, while wonderful, has consequences. Building a home is not an inexpensive venture. And the costs of construction have been rising. And with the new requirements of Net Zero, construction costs rise again. Now needing to hire professionals for months of design and engineering calculations, before you can even break ground. And pandemic-related supply chain problems aren't helping, adding tens of thousands of dollars in cost to the typical house. So what has Residential Net Zero meant in recent years? The idea behind Net Zero is to simply reduce our energy needs one home at a time. I imagine we all picture a similar building. Modern lines, huge windows, passive day lighting and expensive high end materials? We picture the result of a whole TEAM! Of architect(s), engineer(s), a specific building site, and a building that melts into the landscape in a one-of-a-kind way. We picture $$$! Dollars signs flashing before our eyes. Now, for 5 Million new, energy efficient, net zero homes... We can not expect contractors to foot this bill & still make a living. We can not expect new home owners to pay even higher asking prices. We can not even expect architects & engineering firms to have the available manpower to design 5 million new homes! This is where BTF provides a solution. BTF is one of the first in the nation to provide TRUE stock net zero home plans. We are not talking about the faux plans you see on floor.plans.whatever.com that simply put the words Net zero in their title. Those are spamming the internet with false impressions. We mean TRUE stock net zero. BTF developed Net Zero plans that are integrated architectural & mechanical drawing packages. And this essential integration, is not yet seen in other stock plans available on the market today. Providing drawing packages that include not just architectural designs, but the HVAC, Solar PV and energy analysis needed to build a net zero home, all in one. Simply buy and build. Our plans are ready for construction on nearly any site, in climate zones 5A through 8. Our only quirk: Our plans have a specified North. Therefore we designed our homes to look nice from all sides. Now, instead of hiring an architect & engineering team, and relying on months of expensive site specific design … We've done it for you! We share with you,Stock Net Zero, at a new industry standard. An industry standard that addresses the negative effects of climate change. And the positive effects we can make in our beloved building industry. Filling one of the gaps between the fossil fuel demands of today - and the carbon neutral buildings of tomorrow.
Diversity and Inclusiveness
We've designed a solution to make the transition to green building easy. Our plans are meant not only for contractors who are well versed in green building. But also for those who are new to these codes and requirements! And by 2030, nearly all residential builders will need to embrace net zero building standards. We've discovered, and are happy to share: That Energy Efficient does not need to be expensive or complicated!
Learning Objectives
Recognize elements of net zero home design that contribute to space, energy and resource savings.
Incorporate simple yet modern construction means and methods to cost effectively meet net zero and carbon free requirements.
Understand the essential elements of a net zero/ carbon free home and how those elements do not need to take away from a home, feeling like a normal home.
Call on us as a resource, for pre-designed stock net zero home designs, ready for construction on nearly any site in 35 States!
