I am representing the Empire Building Challenge team within the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). Proposed Session Description
The session will describe the Empire Building Challenge (EBC) process and Resource Efficient Electrification. This will be a follow-on conversation to the BuildingEnergy Magazine IDP Issue article of the same topic. We will update our learnings based on the work conducted by Cohort 1 of the Empire Building Challenge, and we'll be able to announce Cohort 2 plus the work conducted with that group of real estate owners and MEP engineers. Why is this session important?
This session is critically important give the real and perceived hurdles around decarbonizing large and complex buildings in urban environments in cold climates. It is important right now so we can help the industry avoid sunk costs, creating stranded assets, and delaying critical action needed to decarbonize our buildings.

Agreed to discuss changes from Round 1 to Round 2, lessons learned, with a focus on addressing financing and equity gap. Requested that I be the curator and act as moderator for some Q&A panel type of discussion for last 15 min of presentation

R2 Discussion:Addressing lessons learned, following up on an earlier write-up in the NESEA magazine. Could bring in someone from NYSERDA and RMI. Will also incorporate financing and equity considerations. Important to have meaningful audience participation (open to doing a moderated panel).
