Andrew Padian is a Lifetime NESEA member, co-creator of BE-NYC, and Chair of both Boston and NYC BE Conferences. Padian has over 30 years of experience managing sustainability projects and programs across the private, nonprofit, and financial sectors. He is a nationally noted expert on building science, sustainability, resilience, energy efficiency, code compliance, and appliance efficiency. He writes and presents on these subjects regionally and nationally.
Padian has managed numerous projects and programs within the building community, from vast energy auditing programs to changing the way financial institutions provide loans, encouraging sustainability and cash flow. Throughout his experience, he has worked extensively with contractors, building code officials, owners, architects, engineers, and other building professionals to reach positive outcomes and complete projects on time and within budget. In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, he was the principle technical construction manager for New York City’s largest subrecipient, working in the office and field to complete complex projects that needed to repair damage, exceed building codes, and create more resilient properties. In all of these positions, he was responsible for training and mentoring existing staff, consultants, and other professionals to meet or exceed the desired outcome of the program.
Proposed Session Description
Throughout the ages, building owners both small and large have been given the next piece of "technology" which will solve building problems. These solutions oftimes create a cascade of problems not fully known or revealed by the protagonists, which then must be solved by the owner's ever shrinking bank account. This brief history lesson will walk through some of the brilliant new and retrofit ideas over the last century promoted by both building and government professionals.

The efficiency sector, highlighted in this session, employs primarily people of color in metro areas

Full Description
Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. If we do not look at our history, we will continue to make technical and policy mistakes.
