Proposed Session Description
With access to buildings limited, customer engagement and on-site activities have proved difficult. This has constrained onsite energy audits that provide guidance to building owners by identifying energy and money savings and reduce the environmental impact of their buildings. As a result there is increased need for new solutions that can provide tools to stakeholders to engage with customers and perform building analysis virtually and/or remotely. Learn about the replicable strategies and best practices utilities, implementers, cities, and large property managers use to leverage software to remotely engage and collaborate with building staff and owners to drive projects.
Diversity and Inclusiveness
Our case studies feature minority stakeholders and many of them would be interested in speaking on these case studies.
Learning Objectives
Clear understanding of the impact that building energy management software can deliver in a remote/virtual context .
Specific best practices and strategies that utilities, implementers and portfolio owners have learned when implementing innovative solutions and transforming their legacy workflows.
Model for evaluating the impact of implementing a building energy management solution on your workflow.
Gain wider knowledge about the available options for identifying economically viable energy and cost reducing projects during the pandemic and how these options can continue to provide value outside of the context of the pandemic.

Comments about your speaker roster
Oliver Davis can speak about all Case Studies but he can also bring in other engaging, dynamic subject matter experts who were directly involved in the projects that are presented in the case studies. These potential speakers include but are not limited to: - Director of the CUNY Building Performance Lab - Director at a top-3 Utility Program Implementation Company - Sustainability Director from a major U.S. Banking Institution

More information on the case studies is below. First, a case study on how a major California utility is using an analytical survey tool to engage its customers with no touch. Customers fill out a survey embedded on a website, email, or app and receive instant guidance on incentives available to them and where energy reducing projects can be found in their building. This survey application is also a lead prioritization tool for the utility as it identifies which customers are engaged with the utility program and require further discovery through a virtual or onsite audit or walkthrough. Tangible results will be presented demonstrating that this strategy increased customer engagement, application conversions, and reduced energy use and spend for customers. Next, a case study will be presented on a major U.S. banking institution and the CRE management firm tasked with managing its properties. These companies used software to benchmark, trend, and prioritize a 3000 building portfolio to identify buildings worthy of virtual auditing. Virtual audits were then performed on 15 buildings, ultimately yielding over $77,000 in energy savings. The entire workflow will be presented during this case study to demonstrate how this strategy can be replicated across any portfolio. Next, a case study will be presented on how a top-3 implementer used a peer-to-peer video tool integrated into a Strategic Energy Management software platform to engage and collaborate with building staff in order to guide data collection, which informed incentive and ECM recommendations. This workflow was developed as a response to the pandemic but can be utilized going forward to reduce operating expenses for implementers running utility programs. Lastly, a case study will be presented on how the City of New York is leveraging software tools for remote building analysis to identify carbon emissions reducing projects across its 4,600 building municipal portfolio representing nearly 1B Sq. Ft. NYC uses software to centralize and standardize disparate information while streamlining processes and informing budget planning. Software has also aided NYC agencies in meeting climate action plan goals, optimizing energy efficient project budgets, streamlining project development, and complying with local ordinances. By leveraging software, NYC has realized 90% time savings for building analysis, reporting, and compliance.
