Proposed Session Description
The City of Boston is on the cutting edge of emissions performance standards for existing buildings. Staff from the City’s Environment Department will present on Boston’s new Building Emissions Reduction Ordinance (“BERDO 2.0”). The purpose of this session will be to engage building and energy professionals on decarbonization pathways that help building owners comply with the new standard. The speakers will present on the requirements of the ordinance, compliance mechanisms, the ongoing regulations development process, and resources to assist building owners in complying. To ground the conversation, an example building will be used throughout the presentation to illustrate concepts, demonstrate decision points for buildings, and highlight financing opportunities. The presentation will be followed by a facilitated Q&A session.

Full Description
BERDO 2.0 is a landmark climate policy that creates opportunities for building professionals to apply creative strategies to decarbonize approximately 3,500 subject buildings. The goal of this session is to equip building professionals and owners with decarbonization strategies that meet BERDO’s declining emissions standards. Session attendees will be able to engage directly with the policy-makers and support the transformation of Boston’s buildings. As building emissions performance standards are being considered by other jurisdictions, the topic is also relevant for attendees from localities outside of Boston.
