In the Fall of 2022, the EPA released important rulings around the phase down of HFCs, putting a Federal ‘line in the sand’ for the phase-out of R-410a (and other HFCs) in heat pumps. Meanwhile, the ASHRAE Standard 15 Committee released their 2022 edition, along with some key addendums. The ASHRAE 15 / 15.2 - 2022 standards will be key to allowing and adopting lower GWP HFC’s in Heat Pumps, and the new requirements will have major positive impacts on overall emissions, efficiency, and safety. This presentation will build on previous presentations, digging deeper into the phase-out regulations of high GWP HFCs in the U.S, into the new ASHRAE 15 standards, and into how our industry should gear up for this major transition now at our doorstep.
PS: JS will have North America’s first R32 Heat Pump present at Building Energy Boston, and at this session, running off battery power!
Previous NESEA sessions by JS Rancourt have discussed HFC refrigerants, including at Building Energy Boston 2020 and 2021.
View this presentation to gain an understanding of the chemistry, safety, standards and regulations around HFC refrigerants.
