Petersen Engineering provides complete MEP/FP engineering services, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection engineering. Our mission is Smart, Sustainable Design. We approach our designs holistically and collaboratively to optimize occupant health and safety, economy, durability, energy efficiency, and ease of operation. We have expertise on a broad range of topics such as building siting, massing, envelope design, space planning, and building science to improve life-cycle costs, occupant comfort, heating and cooling capacity requirements, building durability, and ease of operation and maintenance. We currently employ 6 Certified Passive House Consultants, a testament to our progressive approach.

pHdesign was founded in 2008 in a small space in the Brooklyn Navy Yard and has grown into a Lower Manhattan office near the South Street Seaport. The project types have also grown from small kitchen and bathroom renovations to single-family houses, condos, coops, and mixed-use projects. The firm focuses on reusing existing buildings while incorporating sustainable building practices. It now includes the design of two Passive House projects - a ground up home in northern Michigan and an EnerPHit project in Jersey City.
